Director of Business Development

Department: Business Development
Location: Home-based


 Purpose of the Position:


The incumbent will have direct sales and sales prospecting responsibilities for a geographic business market segment.   The position will secure new business with new and existing clients and manage the commercial interface with customers and the Avecia manufacturing facilities.


Key Responsibilities:


Develop and manage client relationships, including negotiation of contract terms and execution of the contract.


Develop/write proposals for his/her clients and review proposals from other business development managers.


Develop market intelligence; new opportunities; competitive targets and market dynamics.


Maintain sales and marketing database for assigned territory / market segment.


Keep business management informed of significant commercial events that may impact the business.


Ability to work with cross functional groups to support proposal generation.


Job Knowledge Required:


Technical degree (Chemistry, Engineering, Biology, etc.)


5+ years sales or business development experience


Drug development experience, as a hands on practitioner or project manager


Experience in APIs, intermediates or fine chemicals. BD or PM experience in a CMO or CRO environment is required


Experience reviewing and negotiating legal agreements (e.g., Non-disclosure or Confidentiality Agreements, Master Service Agreements, Supply Agreements)


Organizational and time management skills


Strong Communication, verbally and in writing.


Flexibility and ability to operate in a rapidly changing environment.




Meet or exceed established sales revenue targets for territory.


Accountable for meeting business development targets established for their territory or market segment.


Accountable for maintaining a positive relationship between Avecia and the client.


Plan and implement sales, customer retention and development strategy for territory.
