Director of Environmental, Health, & Safety

Purpose:

The position is responsible for the strategic planning and implementation of EHS systems for all Nitto Avecia sites. This position also works directly with the appropriate Nitto business units to translate corporate directives into regionally and locally compliant EHS systems. The Director of EHS is responsible for establishing annual EHS objectives to support the Company’s business objectives in a compliant manner working directly with the SVP of Operations and senior team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic review and support for EHS systems and improvements at all Nitto Avecia sites.
  • Provide the plans and resources required to support ongoing and new EHS objectives based on the Company’s business objectives.
  • Manage EHS staff through direct or indirect lines of reporting (as assigned) including setting expectations and providing performance feedback.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local EHS regulations such as, but not limited to OSHA, TURA, MA/OH/CA -DEP, etc.
  • Provide resources and support for relevant site training.
  • Represent Nitto Avecia in external EHS interactions with regulatory officials, local officials, and community programs.
  • Provide periodic updates and improvement recommendations regarding EHS system compliance status by establishing and analyzing key performance metrics.
  • Participate in general operations management as a senior member of the Operations management team.

Job Knowledge:

  • Minimum of a BS in an EHS related study; MS in a similar technical field preferred.
  • 10+ years in EHS management experience in a chemical or pharmaceutical manufacturing operation. A minimum of 3 years of that experience must be at a senior manager level or above.
  • Previous experience with managing multiple direct reports a must.
  • Previous experience with global organizations and multiple sites highly preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills a must.
  • Proven abilities to work with and influence in varied cultural environments.
