Supply Chain Manager

Purpose of Position:

To be responsible for raw materials for manufacturing and process development to ensure planning, procurement, receipt, production and shipping are managed efficiently and in compliance with all regulatory requirements, individual customer needs and all company quality and safety standards.

  • Materials team management, development and training
  • Participate in the implementation and maintenance of purchasing specifications for all items
  • Maintain supply chain awareness of solvent / reagents vendors
  • Actively participate and use QA audits to drive materials knowledge
  • Key project team participant calling in other supply chain individuals when required.
  • Seeking continuous improvement through reduction in multiple working in other parts of the organisation eg: efficient lots sizes (reduced QC); delivery timing, FID / complaint reduction. Efficient vendor use through forecasting and negotiation in 0-12 month timescale.
  • Assisting in warehousing strategies adequate for current and future needs
  • Manage all logistics / shipping

Supervise purchasing activities for all material / consumable items bought by the site, to ensure planning and procurement are managed and negotiated by effective means.

  • Establish relationships and negotiations with key Solvent / Reagent suppliers
  • Main site buyer, providing cover and support for all departmental areas.
  • Establishment of the most efficient provider for lab materials ordering by technical functions and ongoing maintenance of efficient ordering systems

To be responsible for the material / consumable related S&OP type processes

  • Ongoing Oracle ERP operation
  • Meet cycle count accuracy per company goal
  • Inventory management and forecasting
  • Materials support to the Master Scheduler to achieve Avecia and supplier planning goals
  • Materials forecasting to drive cost reductions
  • Ongoing BOM / recipe development
  • Manage supplier relationships to ensure that quality, security of supply and price are effectively balanced to meet the business objectives
  • Work on SC continues improvement projects
  • To be responsible for the appropriate balance of material inventory to ensure appropriate working capital levels are balanced to secure of supply

Key Responsibilities:

  • Min. 7 years of experience in GMP or ISO environment
  • To lead the materials / consumables activities to ensure that all resource and planning conflicts are resolved to ensure customer requirements and projects are executed with the maximum efficiency.
  • To lead materials / consumables activities to ensure they are in compliance with current SHE, cGMP and business procedures, and that these are reviewed to ensure their continued compliance with regulatory, customer and company requirements, resolving any conflicts between these differing needs.
  • In order for this role to be effective, the Job Holder must establish and maintain a high level of credibility with the main customer business, such that they are accepted as a key member of the business with a valuable contribution to make to project delivery.
  • Strong influencing skills are required dealing suppliers as well as key personnel within the business, such as site Manager, QA, PD and manufacturing personnel to ensure all supply chain issues are fully addressed and all conflicts are rapidly and effectively resolved.
  • The Job Holder must influence and supervise all purchasing activities for materials / others and work closely with colleagues.
  • The Avecia business is in a high growth phase and there are many new projects in development at any one time. Due to the fast track nature of many of these projects, the Job Holder needs to be flexible and be able to prioritize effectively under very demanding circumstances to ensure the Business goals are achieved.
